Friday 6 December 2024 Performing arts Winter Showcase Last night's the Performing Arts Winter Showcase was an extraordinary celebration of talent and dedication. The event featured solo performances, dynamic ensembles, choirs, and energetic bands, all showcasing the immense skill and passion of our students. Behind the scenes, the stage and lighting crews worked tirelessly to create an atmosphere that elevated every performance. The showcase was a testament to hard work, creativity, and collaboration. A huge congratulations to everyone involved for delivering such a fantastic evening of entertainment!

Monday 25 November 2024 Year 7 Explore Global Biomes at Iconic Kew Gardens Year 7 pupils had the opportunity to attend a trip to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew as part of our ongoing personal development curriculum. Kew Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is renowned for its extensive collection of plants and its vital role in global plant conservation and education. During the visit, pupils explored the Palm House and the Princess of Wales Conservatory.

Monday 25 November 2024 Year 10 Artists' Day at Tate Modern On Monday 18th of November, Year 10 Art students embarked on a school trip to the Tate Modern. Students explored part of the gallery, focusing on abstract art and finding artworks that related to their interpretation of the topic of their current project "Abstract", creating links to different artist's work to expand their visual imagery. Students worked in small groups, taking pictures and creating tonal studies and thumbnail sketches of different art works. It was a very productive day, well done Year 10 Art students!

Wednesday 13 November 2024 Year 12 Students Explore Life at Cambridge University Year 12 students from Oaks Park High School recently enjoyed an insightful visit to Cambridge University, aimed at providing a clear understanding of the application process and a real taste of university life. The day included a detailed introduction to applying for Oxbridge and Russell Group universities, offering valuable advice on crafting strong applications and meeting the specific requirements of these institutions. Students also toured Newnham College, where they gained insight into the history and traditions of the university. A highlight of the day was the Q&A session with current Cambridge students, who shared honest accounts of their academic and social experiences, helping to dispel common myths about life at Cambridge.

Monday 21 October 2024 Lessons from Auschwitz - Visit to Poland On 8th October, two Sixth Form students travelled to the town of Oswiecim in Poland as part of the Lessons from Auschwitz project run by the Holocaust Educational Trust. Riya (Year 13) and Aleyah (Year 12) joined 200 other sixth formers from schools across London in gaining a greater understanding of the Holocaust. Students studied individuals that were impacted by Nazi persecution and the role that camps like Auschwitz Birkenau played in the Holocaust.

Friday 18 October 2024 Jack Petchey Achievement Awards Students and staff from Oaks Park High School proudly attended the prestigious 2024 Redbridge Awards Ceremony, held to honour exceptional achievements across the borough. The event, hosted at the Redbridge Town Hall, brought together schools, community leaders, and local talent in a night filled with inspiration and celebration.

Wednesday 2 October 2024 Newnham College, Cambridge University: Inspiring Students to Aim High This week, Newnham College visited Oaks Park to present an engaging and informative talk for year 8 and year 10 students exploring their post-18 options. The event aimed to empower students to think ambitiously about their futures and provided valuable guidance on the wide range of opportunities available to them. The talk began by emphasising that "it is never too early to think about what you want to do in your future." Students were encouraged to consider a broad spectrum of subjects and career paths, from the sciences and humanities. Students in attendance found the talk incredibly insightful. One remarked, "Very clear and gave me a good idea of all the subjects that are available," highlighting the comprehensive nature of the presentation. Another student added, "Very helpful," reflecting the practical advice and encouragement that was given throughout the talk.
