Take The Lead

The highly reputable Old Vic Theatre running the exclusive Take the Lead programme, funded by the Royal Bank of Canada chooses only 20 schools in London and we are very proud to have secured a place for a third time thanks to our careers and Drama teams! Our participation offers a fantastic opportunity to develop the employability skills that will enable our Sixth Formers to stand out from the crowd when applying to university, apprenticeships or jobs next year.

Please, see the review from two of our Oaks Park participants in Y12, Godwinner Nkebani and Aamina Abbas:
“Our experience at the Old Vic Workshop was exciting, Inspiring and Overall a wonderful experience. The use of drama techniques enabled us to understand how to apply the 5 core skills which are: Communication, Self-Belief, Teamwork, Problem Solving and Self-Management.

Devising a piece of Drama through only looking at a picture for 5 minutes took a team effort, resilience and lots of listening skills to ensure everyone's opinions and ideas were validated and heard. When confronting financial and time-management challenges we were able to overcome them together whilst also making sure the production of our short story was enticing and thrilling on a £4000 budget.

At the end of the experience we were able to build on our weaknesses which were budgeting for Aamina and Self Management for Godwinner. I hope other young students and pupils will be able to experience this immersive and fun workshop, and can be able to say by the end of the experience that they have learnt something new about themselves and their capabilities when applying each of the core skills to tackle problems that arose in the workshop and will arise in the world of work. We can’t wait to visit the Bank of Canada, while we learn more skills alongside the fantastic facilitators and we are looking forward to watching the musical Just For One Day at the Old Vic.”
